mom's mac cheese

8oz box macaroni
2 cups extra sharp cheddar, shredded
¼ cup parmesan cheese, shredded
¼ cup butter
½ cup flour
2 cups milk
salt & pepper

  1. preheat oven to 375°
  2. boil some water and cook the pasta for as long as the box says to
  3. meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan, then remove from heat
  4. gradually stir in the flour
  5. then gradually stir in the milk, add salt & pepper to taste
  6. put sauce on medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly
  7. in a casserole dish layer the pasta, sauce, and cheddar cheese repeatedly until all is used up.
  8. sprinkle top with parmesan cheese
  9. bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes

 

if you're feeling creative, you can add various extras to this dish. i've tried mustard, italian sausage, ham, and tomatoes. one at a time of course, not all together. well if you're the sort that likes the "everything goes meatlovers" kind of pizza, then go for it.
